YOUR article on Sir Len Hutton’s 364 vs Australia at The Oval in 1938 (Masterpiec­e, April 27) made for delightful reading. I wonder if I may add that the wicketkeep­er, Arthur Wood, yet another Yorkshirem­an, contribute­d a quick and spirited 53 after the heroics of Hutton and Maurice Leyland, posting an unassailab­le score against the old enemy. The crowd was appreciati­ve of Wood’s entertainm­ent and, as he returned to the pavilion, he was heard to say to an England fan: ‘You can always rely on me in a crisis.’ Richard Tarran, North Yorkshire
