Let the chips fall

-

IGLANCED at the Frontispiece of Miss Megan Maureen Abernethy-hope (April 20) and thought nothing more about it until I passed a homeless man. I didn’t put anything in his coffee cup, but passed by, as most of us do. Then, I remembered the reference to Miss Abernethy-hope’s late brother, Billy. A bit of research revealed a young ambulance driver with a passion for the homeless and rough sleepers, whose life was tragically cut short by a motorcycle accident. His idea was simple genius —allowing the public to buy Billychips to give to the homeless, who could, in turn, redeem them in coffee shops and takeaways for food and drink. Now, our excuse that, if we give rough sleepers money, they will only spend it on drugs or alcohol, is no longer valid. Perhaps this letter will motivate more of us to buy Billychips.
