Perfect for parties
Colle del Principe, Organic Brut, Prosecco, Veneto, Italy NV. £9.50, Marks & Spencer, Ocado, alc 11%
Of M&S’S seven Proseccos, this is the most characterful and driest; 12% Chardonnay and 3% Pinot Bianco. With vineyards influenced by the Adriatic sea and Dolomite Alps, the orchardfruit palate is invitingly fresh.
Crunchy cranberry
Vinos Inacayal, La Cueva, Maule Valley, Chile 2021. £9–£10, Clapton Craft, Gnarly Vines, The Sourcing Table, alc 13.5%
An instantly likeable drop, sourced from old, dry-farmed, ungrafted vines of mainly País with Cabernet Sauvignon and Carignan. Brimming with juicy, crunchy cranberry, strawberry and tart cherry, with a tangy grip to the lip-smacking finish.
Ripe apple fruit
Heidi Shröck, Furmint, Burgenland, Austria 2019. £16.83, The Fine Wine Co, alc 12.5% As well as the Austrian grapes Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch and St Laurent, the talented Heidi Schröck champions traditional grapes such as Furmint. This delicious everyday-drinking white displays great purity, with white flower and ripe apple fruit, minerality and good acidity. Eighteen months’ ageing on fine lees has given the wine texture.
Honeysuckle and hawthorn
Louis Chèze, Ro-rée Blanc, St-joseph, Rhône, France 2020. £30.95, Champagnes & Châteaux, alc 14.5%
A blend of 60% Marsanne and 40% Roussanne, from 30-yearold vines on granite soils, aged in oak for nine months, 20% new. Gold in the glass, weighty and generous, with honeysuckle, hawthorn, spicy oak and apricot notes, it has an attractive phenolic quality.
