BREED OF THE MONTH
Lincoln Longwool
If you like to spend cold winter nights knitting by the fire, then look out for yarn from the Lincoln Longwool. With its characteristic crimps, the fleece of this sheep is one of the heaviest of any breed, and reputed to grow at a rate of an inch per month. Lincoln Longwools were key to the wool-producing industry in Lincolnshire in the 18th century, and today, the long, lustrous nature of the fleece means it remains a firm favourite with hand-spinners.
