THE HIGHLIGHTS
GLORIOUS GARDENS
In an area of unusual horticultural variety and interest, the gardens and botanical visits on this trip really do stand out. We have arranged private guided tours of Kirstenbosch, the wonderful Dylan Lewis Sculpture Garden on the slopes of Stellenbosch, Kokerboom, the biggest succulent nursery in the world, and the bulb capital of Nieuwoudtville.
Other floral highlights include a visit to the Ramskop Wildflower Nature Reserve, which is home to the greatest display of planted varieties in the Namaqualand region, and Hantam National Botanical Gardens, one of the most biodiverse places in the world, with an incredible 1,350 plant species.
UNRIVALLED EXPERTISE
Country Living readers are sure to enjoy spending time with Carlos Magdalena in some of South Africa’s most diverse and beautiful gardens, when there will be plenty of opportunities to find out what it’s like to work as a horticulturist at Kew’s Royal Botanic Gardens, as well as ask him questions about his globetrotting horticultural adventures. You will also spend two days in the company of Sean Privett, one of South Africa’s leading botanists, who will take you to see some of the rarest and most beautiful flowers in the region. He will also share his in-depth knowledge in a Q&A session and on a thrilling 4x4 flower safari, which will be an unforgettable experience.
FINE FOOD AND WINE
Memorable meals will include a traditional South African braai (similar to a barbecue) under the stars and traditional afternoon tea at the excellent Vineyard Hotel in Cape Town. Plus you’ll enjoy visits to the Cape’s famed wine region, including the House of J.C. Le Roux, where they make South Africa’s leading sparkling wine in the heart of the picturesque Devon Valley near Stellenbosch.
