FREE-RANGE CHICKEN FARMER
“In the early 1950s, my father pioneered industrial chicken production on the family farm in Kent. His operation expanded considerably, but working with him as a boy in those sheds made me realise that nature was being excluded. I was concerned about the use of antibiotics and felt customers would be shocked to see the conditions the animals lived in. By the mid1980s, all the neighbouring farms had disappeared. When I became a father, my wife Henri and I decided to establish a business producing food we were happy to feed to our children and which would help sustain the small-scale ventures that have been the foundations of rural communities for generations. And so Piper’s Farm was born. We work with mixed family farms to rear animals in the same way our grandparents did. Foraging in our lush Devon pasture, our free-range chickens live significantly longer than most other organic and free-range birds. We work in harmony with nature, because we believe it’s a sustainable system of farming.” pipersfarm.com
