Start composting Using a bin will help it decompose more quickly and efficiently. Sprinkle some earth at the base to allow drainage, then add anything from grass and vegetable trimmings to teabags and cardboard. Maintain a mixture of green and brown material and turn regularly.

If you have one day…

Garden organically Try to avoid manufactured chemical substances such as glyphosate (commonly found in weedkiller) and metaldehyde*** (found in insecticides). Regularly topping up with organic matter (homemade compost is perfect) will boost minerals and micro-organism populations, meaning you need to rely less on fertiliser.
