These true signs of spring herald the welcome start of the new season

HARES Early spring is the best time to spot ‘mad March hares’ in and around wooded areas. Go after dawn or at twilight for the best chance to see them ‘boxing’ in courtship.

WILD DAFFODILS Smaller than garden varieties, the ‘lent lily’, with its pale leaves and lemony trumpet, sounds a spring fanfare from the dappled floors of ancient woodland.

QUEEN BEES Warm days in March bring the first bumblebees – as queens who have survived the winter head out to find nectar and pollen from sweet spring flowers.
