Summer-flowering MAGNOLIAS
In summer months, the evergreen Magnolia
grandiflora, with its glossy green leaves and huge, highly fragrant white blossom, is an impressive specimen tree and equally lovely trained against a warm wall. Its more petite cultivars ‘Little Gem’, ‘Kay Parris’, ‘Alta’ and ‘Main Street’ are perfect for a small garden or a large container. Hailing from south-east USA, the grandifloras are less hardy than the deciduous varieties, so avoid planting in frost pockets, particularly cold or exposed positions.
