From the lavender fields of Provence to the vineyards of Burgundy, the unspoilt countryside of the South of France is idyllic. Soaked in both sunshine and history, it’s a wonderful place to explore on a river cruise at any time of year.
On this eight-day sailing trip, you’ll see the best of the region glide past from the comfort of your luxury Emerald Waterways Star-ship, with a choice of dates available through to October next year. Choose spring for beautiful bright poppies, summer for lavender and sunflowers, and early autumn for the annual Burgundy wine harvest.
Fine-dining is included on board, with wine and beer served during lunch and dinner, and plenty of foodie experiences and tastings along the way. Plus, there will be some fascinating cultural excursions and the chance to wander around the region’s charming rustic villages, too.
Your itinerary starts in Lyon, France’s gastronomic capital, and travels along both the Rhône and Saône rivers, stopping at the picturesque towns of Chalon-sursaône, Tournon, Viviers and Avignon before you disembark in Arles and return to the UK from Marseille. You can choose between a guided walking or bike tour of Lyon, depending on how active you feel, as well as walking tours around the atmospheric Roman ruins of Viviers and Arles, hikes in the local vineyards and the chance to try canoeing. You will also enjoy a Provençale dinner on board hosted by expert local chef Fabien Morreale.

DELICIOUS FOOD AND WINE
You’ll be able to taste the finest French food and wine from artisan producers, including Burgundy’s famous Châteauneuf-du-pape and the palest blush pink rosé from Provence. You’ll also visit the Hospices de Beaune, originally a hospital for the poor but now home to one of Burgundy’s most popular wine auctions.
