HOLE IN ONE
The National Trust has snapped up a former golf course on the coast of Lincolnshire and is turning it into a nature reserve. Working with the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust and county council, the Trust will create a 30-hectare wildlife haven, along a 2km stretch between Sutton on Sea and Chapel St Leonards, by restoring sand dunes and wetlands. The east coast is a popular stopover for migrating birds, making the new reserve especially attractive to black-tailed godwits and spoonbills, as well as flocks of naturalists (nationaltrust.org.uk).
