In the Arctic wilderness
On this unique four-day break, you’ll sleep in a room sculpted from ice, hunt for the Northern Lights and savour gourmet cuisine in Swedish Lapland
It sounds like something magical – at the Icehotel, in Jukkasjärvi, a peaceful village high above the Arctic Circle in Sweden, you can spend the night in a sparkling room carved entirely out of ice. On this four-day winter adventure, you’ll enjoy one night in a Classic Ice Room, wrapped up in a cosy sleeping bag on top of reindeer furs, and one in a warm Kaamos Room. There will also be time to try exciting optional activities, including husky sledding, snowmobiling, crosscountry skiing and snowshoeing.
Your final night will be spent at Camp Ripan in Kiruna, which has one of the region’s best spas as well as a gourmet restaurant. You’ll get a pass for the Aurora Spa, and another highlight will be a culinary evening focused on the indigenous Sámi people’s traditional cuisine. Being so far away from light pollution, there’s also an excellent chance of spotting the Northern Lights during this break, which can be taken from December 2020 to March 2021.
REASONS TO BOOK ICEHOTEL STAY
Classic Ice Rooms in the Icehotel have a double bed carved from blocks of ice, but you can upgrade to one of the Art or Deluxe Suites. The hotel is re-carved each winter from the frozen River Torne and even its chandeliers contain thousands of hand-cut ice crystals. You will spend one night in an Ice Room and another in a Kaamos room.
