On the south-west coast of Skye, Elgol Beach looks out across Loch Scavaig to the jagged peaks of The Cuillin beyond. Taking its name from the Gaelic for ‘weeping swan’, this tiny settlement was a place of refuge for Bonnie Prince Charlie during the Jacobite rising of 1745.
