JOIN THE RHUBARB REVOLUTION
One of my favourite perennial crops, rhubarb is actually a vegetable, even though we often eat it in sweet dishes. February is the perfect time to plant it in soil, prepared in advance by incorporating lots of homemade compost. Plant it with the top of the young plants (their crowns) level with the soil’s surface and cover the roots well, pressing down firmly on the top. Rhubarb can grow long stems with huge leaves, so plant them a metre apart, patiently waiting a few years for it to become established and ready for eating.
