SPOTTER’S GUIDE Spring lambs
The UK is home to more sheep breeds than any other country. Here’s who to look out for this lambing season
HERDWICK A pretty blend of black, white and grey, this native breed of the Lake District is one of Britain’s hardiest hill sheep.
CHEVIOT With its elfin ears, this sturdy breed was named after the Northumbrian hill range but now thrives across the country, particularly on grassy hills and uplands.
SUFFOLK Bred by crossing Southdown rams and Norfolk Horn ewes, this sheep is easily identified by its deep black face and downturned ears.
