A HAND FOR THE LAND
About 500,000 hectares across England are set to be transformed into wildlife habitats by 2042 in projects by the Nature Recovery Network, a partnership between Defra, Natural England and 600 other organisations. Reed beds are already being restored on the Avalon Marshes in Somerset (avalonmarshes.org) to encourage great white egrets (right), while sphagnum and cotton grass are being planted across the Peak District to support mountain hares (moorsforthefuture.org.uk).
