LOCAL ECO-HEROES

-

COAST, a community group on Arran, has been lobbying to protect local marine wildlife for more than 25 years and its efforts are paying off. Divers have found a bed of flame-shell mussels (right) the size of 30 tennis courts in the Clyde. The endangered molluscs form large mats on the seabed, providing homes for other species. It could be a vital sign of the area’s recovery from years of trawling.
