Gil Sutherland and Elaine Mair both work at the local vets and joined the Buckie crew in 2016 after six years with the town’s coastguard team. The fishing community on Scotland’s north-east coast is close to Jack’s heart. His father, Stephen, once lived on a boat there, although it wasn’t until his recent visit that Jack discovered he’d been rescued by the RNLI. Coxswain Alan Robertson revealed that Stephen was his first callout when he ran into mechanical problems and sent up a flare during the night.
