A grand day out
If you’re in need of a break from your own backyard, there is no better diversion than visiting someone else’s. The National Garden Scheme has helpfully grouped its gardens into themes – from rose, cottage and town to dog- and family-friendly. Among the dog-friendly options this month is the ⅔-acre garden at Cow Close Cottage (above), near Harrogate, North Yorkshire. Sloping, with far-reaching views, it features late-flowering perennials and grasses plus a wild-flower meadow. Open for the NGS for groups by arrangement. Go to ngs.org.uk (select ‘garden types’ under the Find A Garden menu).
