SENSE OF THE SEASON… ROBIN SONG

Often called ‘winter’s great soloist’, plucky robin redbreast is one of the only UK birds to sing all year round. Their upbeat ‘spring song’ starts around mid-december, with both males and females marking out their territory. Listen out for the characteristic ‘ticks’, said to sound like an old clock being wound up, amid a powerful flurry of chirrups and trills.
