THE BALANCE OF LIGHT, whether artificial or natural, will affect the look of your cabinets. Tungsten will add yellow, while LED bulbs are cooler and closer to daylight.

SPECIFIC TASK LIGHTING over work areas is best balanced with ambient sources. Open-plan kitchens can complicate needs, so dimmers on several circuits are versatile.

LOW-SUSPENDED PENDANTS (ideally rise-and-fall) in porcelain, metal or glass offer appealing lighting for strongly coloured kitchens.

UNDER-CABINET LIGHTING and cooker hood lights can illuminate worksurfaces, contribute to the background light level or add depth. Under-cabinet strips come in degrees of warmth. Make sure all your lights have the same colour balance.

RECESSED LED SPOTS provide an unobtrusive back-up light source and are especially useful in tight spaces.
