Transylvan­ia evokes images of towering Gothic castles perched on misty mountains, thick, verdant forests and historic medieval towns. The tour begins in bustling Bucharest, where you’ll stay in the heart of the Lipscani district, the city’s historical centre that brims with old-town charm.

You’ll then head into the mysterious Carpathian Mountains of Transylvan­ia, which separates Transylvan­ia from the rest of Romania. Covered by forest, it’s home to Europe’s largest bear population, as well as lynx, chamois and wolves.

You’ll stay in Brasov, a beautiful city known for its Saxon walls and Gothicstyl­e Black Church, before travelling to the rural towns of Viscri and Sibiu.

Our fully escorted tour visits one of Romania’s most charming medieval towns, the Unesco-listed Sighisoara, and two of Transylvan­ia’s most famous fortresses, Bran Castle, inspiratio­n for Bram Stoker’s Dracula and the equally impressive Peles Castle.

Transylvan­ia is home to Europe’s largest population of brown bears. You’ll have the chance to see them in the wild near Brasov (optional excursion) and visit an ethical sanctuary for bears rescued from captivity.

Uncover the compelling past of Bucharest on a guided tour of Romania’s oncecommun­ist capital. You’ll stay in the stylish Lipscani district, where you can visit many famous monuments such as Revolution Square and the Palace of the Parliament.

SEE BRASOV’S BAROQUE BEAUTY

Brasov is a jumble of medieval watchtower­s, spired churches and forested mountains and renowned for its baroque streets.

VISIT DRACULA’S CASTLE

Perched high on a mountain, with narrow corridors and hidden staircases, the dramatic Bran Castle is certainly fitting as home to the legend of Dracula. You’ll visit the iconic fortress and enjoy the views from its clifftop location.
