How can you help barn owls and other birds of prey

Country Smallholding - - Feature / Owls -

The Barn Owl Trust say that to encourage wild barn owls onto your land, you should: Create rough grassland. Erect a nest box - but NOT within 1 km of a major road. Don’t use rat poison. Grow organic (many chemicals harm wildlife). Let hedgerows grow tall beside roads, or erect tall fences, to reduce the incidences of lorry-bird collisions. If a nesting site is at risk, erecting a nest box will mitigate the impact of the site loss. You can prevent owls from drowning in water troughs by making a special float shown here: www.barnowltrust.org.uk/ hazards-solutions/water-troughs-barnowls/#Drowning-video
