Chicken therapy

Country Smallholding - - Inside This Month -

We all love our chickens, but did you know that they are providing therapy to people in special needs centres, schools and nursing homes? Now it’s official — they really are good for our wellbeing.

Susie Kearley has looked into how chickens help in the therapeutic process for those suffering from a variety of issues, from Alzheimer’s disease to isolation and loneliness. One man, who suffered abuse as a child, adopted some ex-batts and discovered that they changed his life. “They calm me down and I feel that through the horrors in both their lives and mine, we connect.” Read Susie’s fascinating article on page 24 — you will be amazed.
