A Bolt of lightning

Country Smallholding - - Donald’s diary -

After suffering the loss of my pup, Ted, in the spring, it took a wee while to get over the trauma of what happened, but when one of my friends locally told me that his bitch had a litter due, I was delighted to book one. My friend’s children named this one Bolt — nothing to do with Usain, but he has bolt of lightning markings on his shoulder. He arrived in mid-July, so we have spent the summer so far bonding with each other. My older dog, Bud, is not the most sociable, but he has slowly started to come round and get used to another dog on his patch. Bolt is showing plenty of herding instincts — particularly when he’s near the hens — so I hope to start harnessing that over the winter.

David and Bolt meet each other for the first time
