Happy festive season!

Country Smallholding - - Contents - JULIE HARDING

I HAVE to confess that Christmas decorations aren’t really my thing. That’s not to say I wouldn’t like them to be — I adore making things from natural materials and was particularly proud of a wreath I concocted a couple of years ago. A family, numerous animals and a heavy workload all mean that time is too short for picking holly and such like with which to festoon my home. I therefore totally admire the smallholders who indulge in creative crafts at this time of the year and turn their homes into festive feasts for the eyes. A handful have opened their doors to Country Smallholding to show off their incredible creations. Be inspired (page 10).

Christmas is definitely a time for giving and we are delighted to be able to offer our biggest ever collection of gifts available to win. Why not enter (page 20) to see if you could be the lucky recipient of hardy footwear, a Cobra Mini Tiller, a Blink XT Camera system, an Omlet Autodoor, VetSpec dog food and much, much more.

As a lifelong horse-mad girl, I have to say that although my own equines seem terrified of their four-legged cousins with the big ears, I am totally smitten when it comes to donkeys. Therefore imagine my delight at running an article entirely devoted to the creatures (page 32) which have such a strong link to the Christmas story.

My own Christmas will be spent with family after —weather permitting — a festive horse ride. Whatever you may be doing — enjoy!
