Major retailers join the Ready to Burn programme
FOLLOWING THE recent launch of the government’s Clean Air Strategy, which revealed that burning wood and coal is a major contributor to air pollution (38% of emissions), major stores, including ASDA and B& Q, alongside more than 50 others, have signed up to the Ready to Burn programme, which makes it easier for customers to buy drier, cleaner and more efficient products. Environment Minister Thérèse Coffey commented: “I encourage all stores to follow their lead, and for all users to stop burning wet wood and smoky coal to reduce the amount of harmful pollution to which they unwittingly expose themselves, their families and the environment. Dried wood and smokeless coal make for a better fire both heatwise and healthwise.” Look out for the Ready to Burn logo on wood fuels before you buy, or visit www.readytoburn. org.
