HEN HOUSE DOES NEED A SPRING CLEAN

Country Smallholding - - Poultry Pen -

Q We have some cobwebs in the hen house and I am unsure whether to remove them because they trap the dust and maybe mites or they are possibly doing good work and eating the bugs. What do you suggest?

ANDY SAYS: Spiders webs are a bit of a catch 22 — they do catch flies, but the web also collects dust and feather dander which provide ideal places for mites to hide. On top of the weekly muck out, what I tend to do is give the whole house an internal jet wash ( left) every couple of months during the warmer weather and a sweep out every other month in the winter.
