DID YOU KNOW?
There’s a water trough from the Boer War at the top of Ben Nevis. It was transported there to store water for the former observatory and weather station in 1882, earning the nickname ‘Wragge’s Well’ in honour of Clement Wragge, the meteorologist who pioneered highaltitude weather observations on the summit. It’s marked on OS Explorer maps as a small body of water just south of the summit – but go carefully as it’s close to a steep drop into Coire Eòghainn. Grid ref NN166711.
