JAMES’ MUST-DO MOUNTAINS

Country Walking Magazine (UK) - - #walk1000miles Update -

CARRAUNTOOHIL, COUNTY KERRY

Ireland’s highest mountain, set in the middle of the glorious MacGillyCuddy’s Reeks range. Not only for bragging rights, but because the surrounding ridges are a scrambler’s paradise. The ridge from The Big Gun to Knocknapeasta is simply stunning – highly recommended.

SLIEVEMORE, COUNTY MAYO

Rising dramatically out of the sea, Slievemore (above) is a small (679m) but dramatic and exciting mountain on Achill Island. A fine mountain offering superb views over the Atlantic – and with a few rocky steps to get your heart racing.

CUILCAGH, COUNTY FERMANAGH

With a famous (and very long) boardwalk known as the ‘Stairway To Heaven’, Cuilcagh (below), has become a social media sensation. It’s the perfect place to grab some awe-inspiring photos; the boardwalk means you aren’t plodding through swamps or navigationally challenged; and the views are great despite its small stature (665m).
