THE NEW DUNGEON GHYLL HOTEL
Situated right next to Sticklebarn, the NDG is a more traditional, upmarket hotel (much more luxurious than the ODG but not as avant garde as the Langdale). Originally a farmhouse, it became a hotel in 1832. It spent the Eighties as an Outward Bound centre but reverted to a hotel in 1991. While its main interiors are beautifully neat, it also has a welcome for our kind, in the shape of the adjoining Walker’s Bar which is much more homely. Here you’ll find down-to-earth pub grub and a good range of ales. The Good Pub Guide says: N/A On the menu: Sweet chilli chicken burger, thick-cut gammon steak, Garsides Cumberland sausage, chickpea and roasted pepper burger. Try the ale: Wainwright Ale (Marstons), Jennings Sneck Lifter. Dogs welcome: Yes (in Walker’s Bar). Accommodation: Yes. Find out more: 015394 37213, www.dungeon-ghyll.co.uk
