GETTING THERE
Walberswick is 12 miles south of Lowestoft, by the A12 and B1387. Bus 99 runs from Lowestoft train station to Southwold, a short walk and ferry ride to the north. Stations also at Halesworth, Darsham and Saxmundham. On demand bus service to Walberswick (booking ahead essential, 01728 635938).

The Bell Inn on the green in Walberswick (01502 723109, www.bellinnwalberswick.co.uk) is owned by Southwold brewery, Adnams, and the 600-year old pub serves a great selection of ales – and wines and spirits – with a menu that emphasises local dishes like Suffolk smokies (smoked haddock in cheese sauce).
