The Game of Country walking

The wanderful board game for walkers!

-

Christmas… a time for overindulgence, bickering with relatives and a revitalising stretch of legs. Afterwards, we settle down and dust off a board game. With that last tradition in mind, we thought we’d give Hasbro and Waddingtons a run (or should that be walk?) for their money. Pull on a pair of boots for Country Walking – the board game.

A country walk is the aim of the game. And every good walk needs an Ordnance Survey map to navigate your route from start to end. Along the way, obstacles, diversions and chance events can cause delays or hasten your progress – just as they do in real life. But go equipped and you might enjoy a smoother path to the finish line… (Details on printing your chance and equipment cards are on the right.) First one back gets the drinks in!

HOW TO PLAY:

If you’re playing with equipment and chance cards, each player takes one card from the equipment stash and places it face up. Equipment cards counteract some hazards on route and chance events. Take turns to roll the dice. The player with the highest roll leads the walk and sets off first. Each player takes turns to roll the dice and move their piece around the board, following the arrows. Some spaces will delay or speed up your progress. Others may send you on out-and-back detours or short cuts. When you land on a stile , you must roll 3 or higher to cross it on your next turn. When you land on a chance space ?, you must pick up a chance card. The first player back to the village wins… and gets the drinks/cakes/treats of choice in.
