Blasted on Binsey
What had started out as a quick family walk up Binsey (Cumbria) in the sunshine, was quickly spoilt by a flash hailstorm. I’d seen the black clouds rolling towards us over the hills, but pressed on regardless, even though I was stupidly not carrying waterproofs for myself or my two girls. With us walking headlong into the teeth of the storm, and with my youngest complaining that the rain was “spiky”, I begrudgingly abandoned the attempt within sight of the summit. What followed was a mad dash back down to the car, the little one now firmly planted on my shoulders! Reaching the sanctuary of our warm car, we settled ourselves before having a good giggle about what we’d just experienced. It didn’t deter us returning the next day in better conditions, when we made it to the top to admire the splendid views.
