APPLE Watch Series 3

-

Price: from £329 What does it do?

It does a lot, although not all relevant to walking. Once paired with your iPhone, you can do everything from making calls and contactless payments to sending texts and streaming songs, while also tracking walks with the Watch’s built-in GPS. If you pay an extra £70 for the cellular version you can leave your iPhone at home and stay connected with just the watch, so it’s a decent option if you track walks with apps like Strava or navigate with apps like ViewRanger. The Series 3 is far from a rugged outdoor watch, but has plenty of useful features to enhance your walks.

Ease of use

If you’re comfortable using an iPhone you’ll adapt to the Apple Watch quickly. It operates via a touchscreen and a rotating digital crown, and the interface is easy to find your way around. The Apple Watch comes loaded with plenty of useful software – like activity apps and heart-rate monitors – and you’ll find hundreds more useful walking apps in the Apple App Store. Slight bugbears are that it’s tricky to operate with gloves on, and isn’t fully waterproof.

What’s it like to wear?

Looks and feels great. It’s lightweight and comfortable with a huge choice of straps. The downside is a small-ish screen (38- or 42mm on the 3; 40- or 44mm on the new £400+ series 4). INFO: Weight: 30g Battery life: Up to 18 hours Waterproof: No (Apple describe it as water-resistant) Biometrics: Calories, HR, VO2 max, sleep Smartphone app/s: from Apple App Store Website: www.apple.com/uk
