CASIO Pro Trek Smart WSD-F20A
Price: £349 What does it do? This military-grade device is the smartwatch all outdoor enthusiasts have been waiting for, but only if you use an Android smartphone because it’s functionality is seriously decreased if you’re an Apple user. When paired with an Android phone you get full access to the Pro Trek’s arsenal of features, which include waterproof and smashproof durability, long battery life, a built-in barometer, power-saving GPS chip, colour mapping, and air pressure, altitude and compass sensors. If you buy it from Cotswold Outdoor or Snow+Rock stores, you get a free oneyear subscription to Ordnance Survey mapping via the ViewRanger app. Ease of use This watch is designed to be used on the toughest terrain in the toughest conditions. You get a big 1.32-inch duallayer touchscreen that’s easy to operate, plus three chunky buttons on the righthand side (designed to be used even when wearing gloves). The Wear OS by Google operating system takes getting used to, but that’s mostly because this watch does so much amazing stuff and is worth persevering with. What’s it like to wear? Casio have done a good job of stripping back the latest version of the Pro Trek Smart, but it still feels chunky. Bulkiness is the price you pay for its large screen.
