The View

-

Lights in the Lakes, the best of the books, OS’s view of the future, Britain’s extremes, cameras to win.

This incredible shot comes from the

Lakeland Festival of Light, which since 2015 has been raising cash for charity by staging spectacular torchlit night-walks on some of the most prominent peaks of the Lake District. The festival is organised by Lakeland Mountain Guides and includes several events throughout the year. This one was the last of 2018 and took place on Fleetwith Pike above Buttermere. Over 40 hardy souls braved the chilly path up Fleetwith Edge to create the trail of light, while four photographers positioned themselves around the valley to capture the scene. This shot was captured from the Buttermere lakeshore by Tom McNally. The event raised over £1200 for the Cumbria Youth Alliance, and will help to fund its Duke of Edinburgh’s Award program. Previous events have taken place on Cat Bells, Blencathra and Striding Edge, raising cash for causes such as Mountain Rescue and the 2015 Nepal earthquake relief fund.

The next Festival event will take place on Cat Bells on Saturday, 4th May 2019. More details at www.lakelandmountainguides.co.uk
