Happy stories and one horror story, and the least friendly sign ever!

Your December issue has given my confidence and self-esteem as a walker the most enormous boost. I was delighted to read your Big Moor/ White Edge feature – especially where you salute any explorer who could put White Edge on a map. At 75 years young, my walking companion and I have ve explored this area many times. On one e occasion we had the exceedingly good fortune of coming across Roger Temple ple as he was photographing a rare insect – we had such a wonderful and informative conversation.

It took us at least three explorative walks to find the impressive Hurkling Stone as well as Ladies ies Cross (a medieval, wayside and boundary cross). All so worth the effort. I now ow feel incredibly proud to be able use your words to consider ourselves as curious, considerate and intrepid souls! My enthusiasm for walking had taken a bit of a dip, but is now fully restored and revitalised. Thank you
