#walk1000miles in action!
Peter Mears (who featured in CW July) is walking round the entire coast of Britain and Ireland – in a busted waterproof and with the worst of winter yet to come. Fellow 1000-miler Holly Wilson-Walker was moved to help!
Holly: “Saturday afternoon I went completely out of my comfort zone and arranged to meet a stranger from the #walk1000miles group to go for a walk. At the bottom of a mountain I met an incredibly wet and cold human.
We abandoned our walk, went home for hot tea and we talked and talked. He told me about his incredible quest to walk the coast of the UK and Ireland, his motivation, the charities he passionately raises money for, how he sleeps outdoors and the environment he cares so deeply for.
“He agreed to stay in my garden for a night, joined us for dinner and made our family a little bigger for a short amount of time. Yesterday we carried on where we left off on our walk on a beautiful clear day, up and over the mountain, along the rocky beaches, laughing and sharing cold drinks. I completed my 1000 miles yesterday but deep down I know I will only ever remember that walk for sharing it with this amazing man, seeing the view with fresh eyes, not counting the miles but counting the moment.”
After their walk, unbeknownst to Pete, Holly resolved to replace Pete’s knackered waterproof, and with the help of Country
Walking was able to surprise him with a brand new model a couple of days later. Said Holly: “Some people want for nothing but it was a pleasure to know that our gift will go a LONG way on the journey ahead! Love this group!” Said Pete: “I’m over the moon!”
