BERGHAUS Ramche Mountain Reflect
RRP: £240 Target price: £180 Snuggling up into the Ramche Mountain Reflect is a true winter delight. This teddy bear of a jacket features something Berghaus call an ‘offset baffle construction’, which essentially means it’s puffed up in the area you really need the warmth – your torso – and less bulky in other areas such as your hips and shoulders. That keeps it remarkably mobile considering its apparent bulk, but it’s still not as dynamic as the Rab and isn’t quite as suited to scrambling. Also impressive is Berghaus’ Reflect technology, which uses a mesh to reflect your body heat, keeping you 20% warmer. And I did find the jacket warmer than the Rab Microlight, even though its fill power is technically slightly lower (700 as opposed to 750). Like Rab, Berghaus have partnered with Nikwax to create a down fill that will still perform even when wet, and they’ve also used a Pertex Quantum outer fabric for tip-top weather resistance. I also found the hood on the Ramche to be much more practical, as it pulls around the head and moves with you as you turn, but the peak is a tad flimsy.
