WALKER’S CAPITAL: LEWES
Nestled in the green folds of the South Downs, Lewes is dominated by the remains of a Norman castle with medieval streets, traditional English churches and narrow alleyways (known locally as ‘twittens’) to explore. This market town takes pride in its specialist, independent shops, with Harvey’s Brewery on Cliffe High Street a must-visit for fans of local ales. Nearby Ditchling Beacon is one of the highest points in the Downs, and a great local walk from Lewes.
