GETTING THERE

Lloyney is an hour from Hereford and slightly further from Shrewsbury, and there’s parking on the main road running through the village. From Hereford take the A4110 and A4113 to Knighton, then continue north-west along the B4355 for four miles. From Shrewsbury, take the A488 south-west to Knighton, then follow the B4355. There’s no public transport to Lloyney, but if you don’t have your own vehicle try Knighton Taxis (01547 528165).

WHERE TO STAY

In Lloyney itself is The Mill ( www.lloyneymil­l. co.uk; 01547 528842) – a 400-year-old converted mill with two double rooms and two singles. All rooms are £34 per person. Alternativ­ely,

The Waterdine Bed & Breakfast (01547 528214) is situated in the village of Llanfair Waterdine, less than a mile from Lloyney, and offers a quiet rural stay in a 16th-century former drovers inn. Rooms cost £77 for two people.

WHERE TO EAT

The small town of Knighton, four miles from Lloyney, has numerous restaurant­s and pubs, including The Horse & Jockey Inn on Wylcwm Place ( www.thehorsean­djockeyinn.co.uk; 01547 520062) – a 14th-century coaching inn with original features and an outside courtyard. Mains from around £9. Four miles in the other direction from Lloyney is the Radnorshir­e Arms ( www. facebook.com/theradnors­hirearmsbe­guildy; 01547 510634) in the village of Beguildy. It’s a black and white timbered 17th-century building, and mains start from around £10.
