Salomon’s X Ultra shoes and boots have long been popular with walkers who like light, nimble but tough footwear. The range’s new (fourth) incarnation, the X Ultra 4, has an increased focus on stability and injury prevention. It’s slightly stiffer than its predecessors, with enhanced protection through the chassis, toebox and forefoot. The Gore-Tex shoe version (£140) is available now; a non-Gore shoe (£120) and ankle-height version with Gore-Tex (£155) will be available in March. Look out for a full review in our shoe test later in the year. salomon.com
