A time-traveller’s library

‘We love maps’ on the front cover of CW December was the reason for my very first purchase. I love maps too. My father was a keen fell walker and we were lucky enough to live just a short drive away from the Lake District and some of the most scenic walks in the country. My finest childhood memories are of walking the Cumbrian Fells with my father, map in hand, guiding the way with a spring in his step and a whistle on his lips.

After his death in the summer of 2014 I inherited his beloved map collection. Together with the maps of the southern regions of England that belonged to my late father in law, we have an extremely interesting collection dating from 1946.It is a joy to look at, has a sentimental value that is priceless and is used regularly.
