LOGISTICS
The route is almost fully accessible by train via Grindleford, Edale and Hope. Multi-day parking options in Grindleford and Hope are severely limited. Some on-street parking is available, but note that both Grindleford and Hope stations are a mile from the villages they serve. If travelling by car, the best option is to leave your car in secure long-stay parking in Sheffield or Manchester and get the train from there. You’ll need to carry clothing and supplies for either two days (if stopping at Edale) or three (Hope), but you can buy lunch supplies at the Yorkshire Bridge Inn and several venues in Edale.
WHERE TO EAT, DRINK & STAY
Please check all options directly. Availability will depend on restrictions. DAY 1: The best option is the
Yorkshire Bridge Inn (01433 651361, yorkshire-bridge.co.uk) which has double rooms with breakfast from £70 and great pub food including haddock and chips for £13. The Ladybower Inn (01433 651241, bateman.co.uk) is good if the Yorkshire Bridge is full, but it’s a mile further on and a mile back in the morning.
DAY 2: Multiple options in Edale but they tend to fill up quickly so book well in advance. The Old Nag’s Head
(01433 670291, the-old-nagshead.co.uk) has doubles from £90 and main meals like a Kinder Mountain Burger for £12. The Rambler Inn (01433 670268, theramblerinn.co.uk) has doubles from £90 and mains like roast pork T-bone with champ mash for £14. The fabulous Edale Youth Hostel
(01629 592700, yha.org.uk, provisional reopening in March) has rooms starting from £24 for one person. Fieldhead
Campsite (01433 670386, fieldhead-campsite.co.uk) has pitches for £7.50 per person.
If these are unavailable, local taxis can take you to Castleton or Hope and back the next day. Our recommendations are
YHA Losehill Hall (details as Edale, provisional reopening March, rooms from £27) or
Swiss House B&B in Castleton (01433 621098, swiss-house.
co.uk, rooms from £45 per person – and has its own Tap Room restaurant).
