The John Muir Way

-

Created in 2014, this multi-day trail treads 134 miles from Dunbar on Scotland’s east coast to Helensburgh in the west. Passing through Edinburgh’s city limits and within shouting distance of Glasgow, it’s not the deep wilderness Muir so famously communed with, but it’s gorgeously leafy and was designed to encourage walkers to engage with nature on their doorstep and ‘awaken interest and respect for John Muir’s wider philosophy’. And aptly for this ‘Father of National Parks’, the western miles wind along the southern hem of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs, Scotland’s first national park. See johnmuirway.org
