BERGHAUS

TwentyFourSeven 20

-

RRP £35 Target price: £25

Simple, versatile and moderately priced; that’s Berghaus’ TwentyFourSeven series in a nutshell. As the name implies, they’re packs for all day, everyday use, be it commuting, gym-going or day walks. No frills or fancy features, just the essentials. The 20-litre version is the smallest, yet was sufficiently roomy for my packed lunch plus a rain jacket, hat and gloves. A wide zip opening made everything easy to get at in a rush. There are also extra pockets for valuables and knick-nacks, plus a plastic karabiner and a rudimentary trekking pole attachment on the outside. What you don’t get is a clever rigid back system or moulded hip support, just foam back padding. There’s no hip belt either, just a chest strap. On the plus side it means a lighter, more compact rucksack, but compared to others, it’s significantly less comfortable to carry with full, unshapely loads. Hot days mean sweaty back time. I’d have liked deeper side pouches to. Given similarly basic packs cost less, the TwentyFour Seven left me wanting more. PT
