GIMME FIVE

-

Five lots of five ways to pack your next trip with giggles and adventure

WHO AM I?

Scrawl a famous person’s name on a post-it note and attach it to the forehead of one of the group. They have to work out who they are by asking questions to which the others can only answer yes or no. The names tend to become more controversial as you go on. But don’t be the person who sticks an obscure actor or singer from the 80s on your child’s head!

SCAVENGER HUNT

A great way to give yourself half an hour of chill time. Challenge young campers to find items from a list you give them with the sorts of things they’ll find nearby – a pine cone, a pink rock, driftwood, a shell...

SLEEPING BAG RACE

We all know this is what sleeping bags were really designed for. Think sack race, only in a bag that’s too long and hard to get taut enough to jump without falling on your face.

MORSE CODE MESSAGES

When the sun goes down, one of your party heads into the visible distance with a torch and sends back messages in Morse Code, one letter at a time (the code for each letter is easy to find online). It’s up to the others to decipher what the torchman is saying.

PETANQUE

What’s great about this is you don’t need much space to play, and you might find the kids are better at it than you are (actually, is this a terrible idea?). The purpose is to throw balls towards an object ball, so a lightweight variety of spheres might be a wise purchase, especially if competition bubbles over and the kids start flinging them at each other!
