A treasure map

-

As a great fan of walking, maps and everything to do with getting out of the house, I set about putting together a walking route for our four grandchildren who would be staying with us over the bank holiday.

It had to be a fairly short route that would start from our house and be along country lanes and footpaths BUT… it had to be a little more than just a ‘walk in the park’. There would be things to spot along the way, flowers to collect and footpath signs to count, let alone some mystifying clues such as ‘Where can you see a diamond?’ and ‘What do the two numbers add up to?’. The ages of the grandchildren range from six to 11 and they would have their own maps and share a compass and so that it was not too difficult. Numbers were added on the map in the area of the clues.

So, will it turn out to be more fun for me organising the ‘mystery tour’, or for the grandchildren? Time will tell! John Hamon, email
