Wonderful waterfalls

-

I’d never done this walk in Teesdale before but it was definitely worth the visit and we’ll be back for sure. Next time I will be taking a proper picnic and finding a nice quiet spot on the river bank.

We parked at the Bowlees visitor centre near Middleton in Teesdale and headed off in the direction of Summerhill Force and Gibson’s cave, before doubling back and heading for Low Force. From there it was only a couple of miles following the riverside path to the top of High Force. If you cross the bridge you get access to the bottom of High Force. It was no more than six miles at most but this section of the River Tees is quite spectacular.

It was a very hot day and we thought it would be nice to stop off on our return to the car, strip off the boots and socks, and dangle our feet into the cool waters of the river. Bliss! John Paul Graham, Ingleby Barwick
